 2016 Preview

Central completed the 2015 season with a 9-4 record. Last year Central captured the region two title and a number one seed in the Class 7A playoffs. They finished region play with a 5-1 record. Central made a nice playoff run in 2015, reaching the semi-finals before falling to a very good McGill-Toolen team by the score of 26-21.

The Red Devils had some tough luck last season as they lost four games, all by less than eight points.

Since 2010, Central has gone a combined 52-19. Their 73.0% winning percentage ranks 4th in Class 7A over the past six seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Central has gone a combined 202-84. Their 71.0% winning percentage ranks 4th in Class 7A and 27th in the AHSAA. The Red Devils have been successful on the football field with twenty-three winning seasons during this time. Their last losing season was 2008.

The Red Devils are led by head coach Jamey Dubose who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 19-6 over the past two seasons at Central. Under his direction the Red Devils have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Dubose.

Coach Dubose's overall record as a head football coach in ten season stands at 90-35 (72.0%). Over the course of his career, Coach Dubose's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of nine times and won five region championships. Coach Dubose won two state championships prior to arriving at Central, the last coming in 2011 at Prattville.

If Central can win ten games this season, Coach Dubose will reach the 100 win milestone.

The Central Red Devils will play in Class 7A region two during the 2016 season. The Red Devils have one of the toughest schedules in Class 7A. Their opponents had a combined record of 66-35 last season. That ranks 1st in Class 7A and 12th in the AHSAA.

The Red Devils enter the season with expectations of not only a region title but reaching the state championship game. They are considered one the favorites in region two and could very well be representing the South in the Class 7A Super Seven come December.

Running back Jaxton Carson returns for his senior season after rushing for 698 yards and 12 touchdowns as a junior last year.

The Red Devils open the 2016 season on a neutral field against non-region opponent Hoover on Friday, August 19 at Cramton Bowl. Last year the Hoover Buccaneers finished with an overall record of 10-3 and in second place in Class 7A region three. The Buccaneers lost in the semi-finals round of the Class 7A playoffs to Spain Park by a score of 7-6.

Central and Hoover have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Red Devils have a 0-4-0 record against the Buccaneers. They last met in 1978 with Hoover winning by a score of 21-14.

Central returns 7A All-State Senior running back Jaxton Carson. He was named to the honorable mention team last season. The Red Devils also return Junior receiver Justyn Ross. He was named to the second team. The Red Devils also return Senior athlete Karon Delince. He was named to the honorable mention team.
